The first weekend of 2017 saw parts of Kashmir resemble a giant snow globe, with snow showers blanketing the region in thick, white carpets. Our social media feeds were full of folks sledding down snowy slopes, clear icicles dangling off the roofs of remote cabins in the mountains, and kids trying to catch snowflakes on their tongues.
It’s good news for travellers, too—the state tourism department has just announced plans for the annual winter carnival from January 21-February 5, 2017 at Gulmarg that is open to all. Expect ice hockey, snowball fight contests, night markets , cultural shows and frosty landscapes. If these photos are anything to go by, it’ll make for a dreamy holiday.
