In Photos: The Many Moods of the Animal Kingdom

Puppy-eyed seals, roaring tigers, and lonesome egrets.

Much like humans, animals have feelings too. Whether it’s a quiet moment of affection between two giraffes, a lion letting down its guard to yawn, or a zebra tensing up, the many moods of the animal world show that we’re not so different after all. The photos in this essay were submitted for a contest on the theme “Wildlife in Black and White”, held by The challenge was to use monochromatic tones to “accentuate the shape, form, texture and details of wild animals”.
